Get Paid Instantly, Zero Fees: How Snapbook + Aspire Kills the PayNow Chase
If you run a small business in Singapore, you know this feeling. Customer says "paid already," sends a screenshot, and now you are squinting at it trying to match the amount to the right order. Or they PayNow the wrong amount, or forget to put your order number in the comment, and now it is a WhatsApp back and forth just to confirm who paid what.
We got tired of this too. So we built something into Snapbook that fixes it properly, using Aspire.
What Is Aspire
Aspire is not a bank. It is a fintech company regulated by MAS under Singapore's Payment Services Act, currently operating under a temporary exemption while its full payment institution license is being finalised. In plain terms, it functions a lot like a digital bank for day to day use, holding and moving money for your business, but technically it is not one, so it does not carry the same deposit insurance a traditional bank account does. Your funds are held in segregated accounts with an actual bank, DBS, not directly by Aspire.
What makes it useful for small and new businesses is that local transfers, including PayNow, are free, and setup is quick, unlike traditional banks which can be slow to onboard and charge more for the same basic transactions.
As always, do your own due diligence before deciding where to hold your business funds. This is not a recommendation to park your entire business banking there, just an account that works well for what we are using it for here.
The Part That Actually Matters
Here is the real upgrade. When a customer checks out on your Snapshop store or books a slot on Snapslot, the QR code they get is not a generic PayNow QR. The amount is already locked in. The reference is already filled in. All your customer does is open their banking app, scan, and confirm. Nothing to type, nothing to get wrong.
And because it is tied to your Aspire account, the payment gets checked and matched automatically, usually within a minute. No manual reconciliation on your end. It just shows up as paid.
Why This Costs You Nothing
The best part, this costs you nothing. Most tools that verify and settle a PayNow payment for you charge something for the privilege:
| Provider | PayNow fee | On a $100 sale |
|---|---|---|
| Snapbook + Aspire | $0 | You keep $100 |
| HitPay | 0.4% to 0.9% + small fixed fee | You keep about $99 |
| Stripe | 3.4% + S$0.50 | You keep about $96.10 |
Free QR generators exist too, but they do not verify anything on your end, you are still manually matching payments yourself. Snapbook's QR is also generated automatically wherever you need it, at Snapshop checkout, at Snapslot booking, on an invoice, so there is no manual QR creation and no chance of a typo in the amount. Snapbook and Aspire does both, verifies automatically and charges nothing.
For Invoices
Invoicing runs a bit differently since it is not always an instant checkout moment. Outstanding invoices get checked against incoming payments a few times a day, so you are not manually matching bank statements against invoice numbers either. Slower than the one-minute Snapshop and Snapslot flow, but still miles better than doing it by hand.
If You Do Not Want To Wait
Telegram notifications ping you the moment a payment on the fixed-amount QR comes in, so most of the time you already know before you even check. The fallback is for the odd case where a customer pays through a normal, generic PayNow QR instead of the one Snapbook generated for them. You will see that payment land in your own banking app as usual, and you can then tap a mark-as-paid button right inside Telegram to update the order in Snapbook, no need to log in just to mark it.

Is Aspire a bank?
No. Aspire is a fintech company regulated by MAS under Singapore's Payment Services Act, currently operating under a temporary exemption while its full payment institution license is finalised. It functions a lot like a digital bank day to day, but it does not carry the same deposit insurance a bank account has. Client funds are held in segregated accounts with an actual bank, DBS.
Does the PayNow QR from Snapbook cost anything to use?
No merchant fee, for Snapshop and Snapslot checkouts connected to Aspire. Compare that to Stripe, which charges 3.4% plus 50 cents per transaction in Singapore, or HitPay, which charges 0.4% to 0.9% plus a small fixed fee for PayNow. On a $100 sale, you keep the full $100.
How fast does a Snapshop or Snapslot payment get verified?
Usually within a minute. The QR already has the amount and reference filled in, so the customer just scans and confirms, and the payment is matched automatically against the order.
Is invoice payment verification also instant?
Not instant, but automatic. Outstanding invoices are checked against incoming payments a few times a day, so you are not manually matching bank statements against invoice numbers.
What if I do not want to wait for automatic verification?
You can turn on Telegram notifications to get pinged the moment a payment comes in, and there is a mark-as-paid button your customer can tap without logging in, if they would rather confirm it themselves.
Do I need an Aspire account to use this with Snapbook?
Yes, the fixed-amount QR and automatic verification are built on top of an Aspire account connected to Snapbook. Signing up for Aspire and connecting it to Snapbook is free.
Do I get anything for signing up through your Aspire referral link?
Yes. Aspire runs a two-sided referral programme. Once you sign up through our link and spend at least SGD $100 on your Aspire card for your business, you get SGD $250 credited to you as well.
